Our commitments
At Yaksha, our philosophy is built on four core values: quality, health, people, and the environment. We seek out high-quality, fresh spices for bold flavours. We banish pesticides by choosing 100% natural spices. Working directly with individual farmers, without cooperatives, ensures transparency and ethics. We also partner with environmentally conscious farms that protect biodiversity and promote sustainable consumption.
Quality: finest spices
Goal
Freshness and flavour
Our farm visits across Asia have shown us that the fresher the spice, the richer the flavour. It all began with a trip to India in 2018, where we brought back cardamom, pepper, cloves, and more to make masala chai. The result? A burst of flavours that quickly became a favourite. Freshly harvested spices elevate our dishes in ways supermarket spices simply can’t match. With direct relationships with our spice producers, we receive their latest harvests in just days, preserving essential oils and aromas that bring the true taste of Asia to your table.

Health: beyond organic
Goal
100% natural
Organic farming allows the use of natural pesticides, but they aren't always harmless. Our producers avoid harmful chemicals, ensuring that fresh, natural spices promote health. In India, Ayurveda, the world's oldest medical system, uses spices to balance our body’s energies. By incorporating natural spices into our diets, we not only enjoy their flavours but also their health benefits.

Naturally grown products are the foundation of a healthy diet.
People: farmers are our heroes
Goal
Fair compensation
By working directly with individual farmers rather than cooperatives, we ensure full transparency and ethical collaboration. We pay fair prices for their harvests, avoiding the monopolies and price pressures of the global market. Unlike cooperatives, where farmers are reduced to numbers, at Yaksha, every farmer is recognised as a hero of their land. Our close relationships allow us to reinvest in social and environmental projects that benefit their communities.

Environment: gentler on the planet
Goal
Sustainable farming practices
Even in organic farming, some pesticides can harm plants and insects. Our farmers practise natural farming, avoiding chemicals altogether. We prioritise gentle methods like permaculture, natural farming, and agroforestry, which protect biodiversity and avoid the damaging effects of monoculture. Our spices grow in harmony with nature, free from chemical interventions.
Permaculture, a concept developed in the 1970s, focuses on soil preservation, water conservation, and biodiversity. It’s about caring for the earth, people, and rethinking how we consume and produce.

Goal
Zero plastic and carbon neutrality
At Yaksha, we aim to change how spices are consumed by promoting responsible choices. Our packaging, shipping, and facilities are plastic-free, using recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, and aluminium. We’ve introduced a refill system with paper pouches to reduce our ecological footprint. Through voluntary carbon offsetting, we support environmental projects run by the GoodPlanet Foundation, founded by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. These projects include access to clean energy and waste management initiatives, helping create a greener future.
