Of the Olympians, the Yaksha fenugreek?
An aromatic and medicinal plant, fenugreek or trigonella is mainly grown in India, more precisely in Rajasthan, the state next to Gujarat in Northern India. Today, it is appreciated in the cuisines of Iran, the Middle East, India and Sri Lanka, and has spread to the Mediterranean basin. In ancient Egypt, fenugreek was already highly prized for its medicinal properties and, like other spices, the Egyptians used it for embalming. In ancient Greece, it was used to feed livestock, hence its Latin name meaning “Greek hay”. Fenugreek is an annual herbaceous plant in the bean family. The pods are up to 20 cm long and contain the slightly bitter fenugreek seeds. Yaksha fenugreek from the Olympians? Rich in nutrients and fortifying powers, fenugreek is a friend to all athletes! With its extraordinary virtues, fenugreek was already recommended to athletes at the ancient Olympic Games!
