Powerful, the Yaksha clove?
Originally from the Moluccas archipelago in Indonesia, cloves are also grown in India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Zanzibar and Pakistan. For almost 2,000 years, Indonesia was the only clove-growing region in the world, but today most of the cloves are used in the local cigarette industry, known as kreteks. When it arrived in the West in the Middle Ages, this nail-shaped spice was the fruit of a very lucrative trade. Cultivation spread to other tropical countries such as South India, renowned for its varied spice plantations. The clove is the flower bud of the clove tree, a tropical evergreen that can grow up to 10-15 m tall. It is harvested by hand before the pink-red bud develops into a flower. Powerful? On the palate, Yaksha clove is an explosion of warm, fragrant scents, with intense, aromatic notes.
